Kickstarter Project of the Week: Eyra the Crow Maiden
For this week’s Switch Kickstarter Project of the Week, we will be looking at Second Dimension’s Eyra the Crow Maiden. The game is slated to release approximately in September 2020 on NES and Sega Mega Drive/Genesis (if it reaches its Kickstarter goal) with no rumbling of a Switch port yet. Here’s the overview:
Eyra the Crow Maiden is a new and original 8-bit video game currently under development to be release this year on cartridge for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
Inspired by the sword and sorcery genre, the world of Eyra takes inspiration from stories of characters like Conan the Barbarian, Red Sonja and Tarzan.
The game’s gameplay and mechanics are based on titles such as Rastan Saga, Cadash, Castlevania, Blades of Vengeance and Jill of the Jungle.
Imagine a very prehistoric and barbaric world where there are no cities but people live in giant temples instead of cities. Temples located in mountains, deserts and other weird places where humans gather and live together to protect themselves from outside dangers, but and to serve their elders who dedicate their time to communicate with gods in search of knowledge and power.
You are Eyra, a young warrior priestess from a barbarian tribe that’s been attacked by the Infernal Marauder, an evil warrior ruler from a far away land. You must travel away from the world you know into dark and unfamiliar lands with the sole company of your trusty familiar, a brave crow trained for combat.
Your mission is simple but not easy. Your elders sent you to rescue a group of soldiers who were kidnapped by Infernal Marauder who intends to experiment on them with ancient magic to create an army never seen before that’ll help him destroy everyone who opposes him.
Along the way you will face many enemies and a few bosses that will do everything within their power to stop her.
The NES and its art palette is a very limited one, but it screams nostalgia for many. It’s a time when gamers didn’t need to stress as much about the complexities of video games and Eyra the Crow Maiden looks to recapture that feeling in the year 2020. Second Dimension look to have a wealth of experience with NES pixel art and in its simplicity, sometimes you just have to gawk at what the NES hardware could pull off.
Eyra the Crow Maiden requires US$5,500 and is currently sitting at US$4,738 after 60 backers with 29 days remaining. If you’d like to support the development of this game and some hardworking developers in their time of need, click the link below to visit the Kickstarter page.
