Kickstarter Project of the Week: Call Me Under

For this week’s Switch Kickstarter Project of the Week, we will be looking at Lunaris Games’ Call Me Under. The game is slated to release in late 2021 on PC (via Steam) and Nintendo Switch.

Here’s the overview:

Dive into the 1950s and explore an eldritch-horror infested world soaked in dark magic, mystery, and romance. Call Me Under takes place in the mysterious underwater city of Styx, a haven inhabited by humans, sirens, and a host of unknown otherworldly entities.

Play as a choice of two different faceless protagonists from The Surface seeking to leave their past behind and start fresh in a new city, even if it is one only rumored to exist at the bottom of the ocean. They do say there’s nothing like a clean slate…

But maybe not if you find yourself thrown into the middle of a brewing fight between the Shadows and the Light; two ancient, otherworldly entities embroiled in a centuries-long battle for power.

Like any city, Styx’s heart is its most ancient place. Neighborhoods sprawling outward from that ‘heart’ have gradually taken on more modern, reassuringly mundane appearances, but the abyss where its most ancient lives once began is a dark, deep, and ruined place. Grand cathedrals now have fallen to disrepair, the entities they once honored forgotten to time. Rundown cobblestone streets where only peculiar, adapted lichen and moss provide light. Shadows, eerily like people and not quite, flit to and fro.

There’s just something about a 1950s fantasy noir thriller that sits so right; the aesthetic, the characters, the grey cement that accompanies city-life; and it all comes together wonderfully under the ocean in Lunaris Games’ Call Me Under. Reminiscent of 2K’s Bioshock, the underwater motif omits an eerie setting and coupled with the supernatural, the mysteries are thrilling, to say the least. Call Me Under looks to be something special – if only the “To Be Continued…” didn’t come so soon in the demo.

This game requires £40,000 and it is currently sitting at £32,978 after 722 backers with 22 days remaining. If you’d like to support the development of this game to help it come to Nintendo Switch, click the link below to visit the Kickstarter page.
