In the Nintendo Treehouse, it was announced that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will feature a hemisphere setting. To further explain, each Animal Crossing game prior to New Horizons was set in the Northern Hemisphere, meaning that in June, it will be set to Summer. However during June in the Southern Hemisphere (Australia, New Zealand, South America, etc), it is actually Winter. Therefore, this option allows the weather to be accurate.

Whilst this may not seem like a big deal to some, as someone who is writing from Australia, this has always made Animal Crossing’s seasonal events and features feel odd as we don’t get a cold Christmas, rather it’s all about the summer sun and barbecues. Providing this new hemisphere setting will actively seek out to fix these seasonal changes which is simply fantastic attention to detail.
